The AstroTurf-sponsored 2021 Football Scoop Coaching Awards

Football Scoop 2021 college football season was distinguished by the activity on the field and the joyful sound of spectators returning to stadiums in a year when terminology like “NIL” and “transfer portal” made the news.

There were some major highlights, too.

No team went unbeaten for the first time since 2018, a Group of Five teams progressed to the collegiate playoff, multiple institutions accepted invitations to join new leagues, and numerous NCAA records were broken on the field.

Coaches are still the foundation of college football. We also had the distinction of announcing the winners of the AstroTurf-sponsored Football Scoop Coaches of the Year honors for 2021. The best position coaches in college football are exclusively recognized by this one set of accolades.

Each award’s finalists were chosen from coaches, athletic directors, and athletic director staff nominations. The winner is then picked from the list of finalists by the previous prize winners. Most recipients will tell you that this award has a far greater significance than others since it was picked by their peers if you question them. The Football Scoop Awards sponsored by AstroTurf, now in their 13th year, have developed into a much-anticipated occasion within the football coaching community. Each year, awards are presented to the winners at the American Football Coaches Association Convention at a reception.

Jeff Grimes of Baylor won the award for an offensive coordinator. Jim Knowles of Oklahoma State won the award for defensive coordinator. Zach Kittley of Western Kentucky won the award for quarterback coach. William Peagler of Michigan State won the award for running back coach. Brian Hartline of Ohio State won the award for wide receiver coach. Todd Hartley of Georgia won the award for tight end coach.

Football Scoop and AstroTurf are pleased to work as a team to give these deserving prizes each year.
